Interview: DWNTWN
DWNTWN are a talented duo from Los Angeles, made up of Jamie Leffler and Robert Cepeda. They create impressive electronic music and have recently released their EP ‘Cowboys’ for free. You can check out the interview our Editor, Amy Rebair, did with them below.
Venture: Is there any story behind your name?
DWNTWN: The story behind the name DWNTWN is pretty simple. We have a group of friends or team, named the Dream Team. Yes there is an Olympic basketball team that goes by this name as well, but we are definitely more respected by Americans than they are. Anyways, we wanted the DT initials in our band name so we decided to go with DWNTWN.
Venture: If you had to describe your music in 3 words, which would you pick?
DWNTWN: pretty, damn, incredible
Venture: You’ve just released your EP, Cowboys. When producing music, is a joint effort or is there one main songwriter as such?
DWNTWN: It’s definitely a joint effort if you know what i mean… just kidding we don’t really smoke. Jamie handles the vocals melodies and lyrics, whilst I (Robert) handle the music and production.
Venture: When writing your songs, where does your inspiration come from? Other artists/bands? Personal experiences?
DWNTWN: I tend to write about love, like only about love, haha, but it’s so universal. I want to write songs that people can make personal and relate to their own lives. A lot of the songs have come from my personal experiences though, I had one bummer break up that gave me toooons of material.
Venture: What would you like your listeners to get from your music?
DWNTWN: Goosebumps.
Venture: Are there any bands/artists you’d love to tour alongside?
DWNTWN: We’d love to tour with some huge band like The Killers because the shows would be super massive and epic, on the other hand though it would also be super fun to tour with our friends Jhameel, Giraffage, Baths, or Noah Diamond.
Venture: How would you describe your live performances?
DWNTWN: A dance party, but on a deeper level. What does that mean? I have no idea. Come see us, and you decide.
Venture: Finally, lets end with a unrelated question. If you pick to go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
DWNTWN: We’ve got a weird addiction with the movie Amadeus, so we’d love to go see one of Mozart’s operas in Vienna.
