The After Party – ‘Kansas’ Review
By Contributor: Leah Gessel
Often times, a band’s greatest struggle is maturing without “losing their sound”. However, The After Party have developed seemingly without a struggle in their new album, ‘Kansas’.
The After Party has brought their distinctive and catchy tunes across the U.S. and Canada, performing on multiple tours and as supporters for bands like All Star Weekend. While they have been together for only two years, The After Party has certainly learned and advanced since their previous ‘get-up-and-go’ albums. ‘Kansas’ maintains the upbeat feeling when it first begins with “Waste the Day”, a song with clean vocals, a steady beat, and simple, yet meaningful lyrics.
“A Better Me” (both the clean and regular version), remains fast-paced with a catchy beat, but begins and ends with a steady and different vibe. “She’s Got a Boyfriend” is the type of song that has you tapping your foot throughout the whole song, and while it is a different tempo, the same can be said for “Still Got Love”.
“Here Comes the Rain” was my personal favorite from ‘Kansas’. It carries sweet vocals and a soft melody. I feel that this song is a perfect addition to an album like ‘Kansas’, because it recognizes and captures emotion on a deeper level that is unusual for a band that is typically high-spirited.
“Unforgettable Nights” is a song that integrates the entire feeling of ‘Kansas’. It begins with a slower, steady beat, which increases as the song continues and exemplifies their ability for diversity.
‘Kansas’ is diverse, catchy, and simply just fun to listen to.
