Band Feature: The Young Things

The Young Things is a four-member band from New  York City. Embracing a retro-rock vibe, members Mike Fleizach, Josh Hammer, Neil Kumar, and Jon LaPrade create a sound to prove that rock-and-roll is not dead, nor is it close to dying. The music created by The Young Things might be classifiable as garage, indie rock, and they don’t disappoint.

With gritty guitars and pounding drums snaking their way through soaring, vintage-y melodies, The Young Things can almost transport listeners’ ears back to the music of the 60’s. The lead singer’s gravelly voice compliments the lighthearted feeling each song exhibits, while at the same time adding to the dark nature of some of the lyrics. The music makes it easy to have a good time listening to music and dancing around. It’s fun, it moves, it begs to be listened to live. True to the band’s hometown of New York City, it’s the kind of music you want to listen to at night  in an underground venue amidst the bustle of a busy city.

The Young Things have performed such renowned venues as CBGB’s, Mercury Lounge, and The Knitting Factory, all the while having a continuously growing fan base. It’s hard to not be addicted to the retro feel the band has mastered. Take a listen to The Young Things! Their sound will have you coming back for more.
