Artist Profile: Owl Eyes
By Kim Dibble
Owl Eyes, otherwise known as Brooke Addamo, is a 22 year old singer/songwriter who produces melodic music, representing youthful issues and experiences. Her music is appropriate within the pop world but showcases innovation and exciting, relatable lyrics. The ‘dream pop’ singer is originally from Melbourne and is signed to record label – Wunderkind/Illusive Sounds.
The initial local support and the increasing fan base helped her to elaborate her music and reach out to a larger audience. Although short, so far, her career has been nothing but exciting. Three EPs and a few years of touring later, the singer/songwriter has now released her emotive and diverse album- ‘Nightswim’.
The album encompasses elements of different cultures including Scandinavian and combines synthpop- mainstream- disco; cleverly managing to diversify yet combine these musical tastes. Her most complimentary asset is her ability to produce emotive song lyrics, which are both dynamic and bold. Owl Eyes’ tracks clearly don’t disappear into the folds of the music industry.
Her songs have established her as “one of music’s brightest and most innovative songwriters” and it does not look like she is ready to stop just yet. With weekly tours planned through May + June and an album to promote world wide, the singer can only expect an exciting next few years.
