What is Venture?
Venture is an online music site which specialises in artist reviews, features and interviews. It was established originally in June 2011 by Bekka Collins, but relaunched in March 2012. Since then we have been stronger than ever. We want to help bring the music community together as much as possible and hope to provide a platform where we can showcase this. Alongside the featuring of bands and musicians, we also hope to put photographers, tour managers, clothing companies and basically anyone with a passion for music in the spotlight too.
Where is Venture based?
Venture is a worldwide, online site. We have staff from all over the world and we thrive on that aspect.
How did Venture begin?
Venture started as a project, a project that was supposed to showcase Bekka’s favourite artists. As a risk Venture took to their Tumblr page to seek out anyone who would be interested in helping out with a new music website. We received an impressive number of responses. Launching foolishly and naively a week or so after the idea was originally thought of, Venture grew slowly but surely and started to gather over 6,000 hits per week. Venture went on hiatus from September 2011 to March 2012, but have since been consistent in our endeavours and are constantly keen to improve.
Why did Venture go on hiatus and then relaunch?
Venture was a project that was simply rushed into. The idea was good and strong, as were the people, but the process was not. This resulted in a lack of communication between staff members, other commitments and generally bad organisational skills. The excitement of a new project kept Venture afloat for the first few months but because opportunities weren’t delegated well, we crashed and burned. After spending a lot of quality time revamping the site, changing hosts, creating new roles and setting new guidelines Venture is stronger than ever.
What is the meaning behind the name Venture?
Originally it was going be “Adventure”, but that isn’t a particularly short or catchy name, nor does it hold a bold dominant presence. Getting rid of the “Ad” was something we decided to do because in literal terms this project was a new venture for us.
How can I write / take photographs for Venture and will I get paid?
Make sure to check out our jobs page to see if we have any vacancies first. If we do, follow the instructions there! Also no, you will unfortunately not get paid. All of Venture’s work is voluntary and no one is paid for the work they do.
